Mayor Has Big Plans To Woo Tourists
Traffic jams and water shortages will soon be a
problem of the past according to new Mayor Sumer Aygin who has
revealed plans including a possible cable car link to St Hilarion
Castle in order to further boost the town’s tourism industry.
While the first stage of the Kyrenia by-pass is
due for completion next year Mr Aygin said the traffic congestion
had been eased by expanding the main east-west road through the town
to two lanes in places.
Another of the Mayors plans is a new 165
capacity car park behind the castle; the 293,00YTL project is being
funded by the European Union.
Mr Aygin also revealed a new water supply had
been discovered close to St Hilarion, a 280 excavation has been
conducted which will alleviate any water shortages for the next two
years.
The most radical plan however has to be the
discussions with private sectors for an ultra-modern cable car link
whisking people from Karaoglanoglu up to St Hilarion, however it was
stressed that talks are at a very early stage.
The new 2,500 Amphitheatre which is currently
under construction and should be opened next summer will help
Kyrenia become a major tourism and cultural centre!!!
